Goodbye, dream of Android on Windows!

On a stormy night, Microsoft announced news that shook Windows 11 users: it was ending support for Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA). Thus, Windows 11 turned a golden page, a page that allowed Android applications to run without the need for middleware.

Surprising steps and disappointing results

Microsoft began implementing its decision without hesitation, so the Amazon App Store was closed and deleted from the Microsoft Store. The ability to download and install WSA independently has also been discontinued.

The matter did not stop there, as Microsoft stopped the ability to publish new Android applications on Windows 11, and contented itself with allowing existing applications to obtain updates until March 5, 2025, the date of the end of official support.

Microsoft failed to compete with Apple

Microsoft's decision to support Android applications was a challenge to Apple, which had previously allowed iOS and iPadOS applications to run on Mac devices after moving to Apple M processors.

The goal of Microsoft's move was to provide a huge library of Android applications to Windows users, but reliance on the poor Amazon store was a stumbling block in its path. While the store lacked popular applications such as WhatsApp and Telegram, it was full of unknown games.

It would have been more beneficial for Microsoft to rely on third-party stores or attract developers itself, to ensure the provision of applications that meet the needs of users.

Competition with Google and emulators

The dream of running Android games on Windows without emulators was a dream that many people had, but Microsoft let them down. For 3 years, no major game was added to the Amazon store, and it was not possible to control external games as desired.

In contrast, Google introduced the Google Play Games for PC application, which provided users with a huge library of games with the ability to control easily and conveniently. The application also allowed users to complete the progress made on their smartphones.

Conclusion:

With this decision, Microsoft put an end to the dream of running Android applications on Windows 11, and users now have to return to using emulators, leaving behind memories of a beautiful dream that did not come true.
